Chapter 2
I. The prayer of Jonah. Verses 1-10
A. This was the need of his prayer.
1. Jonah prayed earnestly unto the Lord. Verse 1
2. We need to pray earnestly unto the Lord. Luke 18:1-8
B. This was the contents of his prayer. Verses 2-9
1. Jonah had confidence in prayer. Verses 2-4
2. We need to have confidence in prayer. James 1:5-8
C. These were the reasons for his prayer. Verses 5-9
1. Jonah was afflicted. Verse 5, James 5:13
2. Jonah was preserved. Verse 5, 2 Peter 2:9
3. Jonah was encouraged to pray. Verses 7-8, James 5:16
4. Jonah was thankful in his prayer. Verse 9, Phil. 4:6
D. This was the answering of his prayer. Verse 10
1. Jonah had his prayer answered. Verse 10
2. We can have our prayers answered. Matt. 7:7
Chapter 3
I. National repentance. Verses 1-10
A. This was the beginning of their repentance. Verses 1-8
1. Jonah preached unto the people. Verses 1-4, 2 Tim. 4:1-4
2. The people believed in God. Verse 5, 2 Cor. 5:10
3. The people repented of their sins. Verses 6-8, Acts 17:30-31
B. This was the reason for their repentance. Verse 9
C. This was the results of their repentance. Verse 10
Chapter 4
I. The unhappiness of Jonah. Verses 6-11
A. This was his anger. Verse 1
B. This was his request. Verses 2-3
C. This was his answer. Verse 4
D. This was his decision. Verse 5
E. This was his lesson. Verses 6-11
1. Jonah was displeased over the destruction of the gourd because
it was valuable to him.
2. God would be displeased over the destruction of Nineveh because
the souls of men are valuable unto him.
