CHAPTER 1

I. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE LETTER: VS 1-2

A. This letter was from a great Christian: Paul. v 1 B. This letter came with the greatest credentials: Paul being an apostle. v 1 C. This letter was to the greatest people on earth: Saints. v 2 D. This letter desired the greatest blessings: Grace and peace. v 2 E. This letter was from the greatest source: God and Christ. v 2 II. OUR SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS: VS 3-14 A. These are the sources of our spiritual blessings. v 3 1. God is the source of all spiritual blessings. v 3, James 1:17 2. All spiritual blessings are in Christ. v 3, 2 Cor. 5:17 B. These are the characteristics of our spiritual blessings. vs 4-12 1. Saints are the adopted son of God by regeneration. vs 4-6, Gal. 3:26-29 2. Christians have had their sins forgiven. v 7, Heb. 8:12 3. The disciples have been given the complete revelation of the truth. vs 8-9, 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Col. 2:2-3 4. All Christians can be unified in Christ. v 10, 1 Cor. 1:10, John 17:20-22 5. All faithful members of the church have a Spiritual Inheritance in heaven. vs 11-12, Rev. 21:1-5 C. These are the assurances of our spiritual blessings. vs 13-14 1. When we became a New Testament Christian, we received the Holy Spirit as a gift v 13, Acts 2:38 2. Christians have been sealed with the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the guarantee that God will keep all of His promises which He has made unto them. Romans 8:14-17 III. PAUL'S PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS: VS 15-23 A. These were the reasons for his prayer. v 15 1. Paul had heard of their faith in the Lord Jesus. v 15, 1 John 5:4 2. Paul had heard of their love for all the saints. v 15, 1 Peter 1:22 B. This was the reality of his prayer. v 16 1. Paul continued to pray for them. 1 Thess. 5:17 2. Christians should pray for each other. James 5:16 C. These were the petitions of his prayer. vs 17-18 1. Paul prayed that they might comprehend the spiritual wisdom which they had received from God. v 17, James 1:5-8 2. Paul prayed that they might understand the greatness of their own spiritual riches which they had received from Christ. v 18, 2 Cor. 8:9 3. Paul prayed that they would understand the greatness of God's power which He had demonstrated in Christ. vs 19-23 a). God raised Christ from the dead. vs 19-20, Rev. 1:18 b). God exalted Christ to set on His throne in Heaven. v 20, Col. 3:1-4 c). God gave Christ all power and all authority in heaven and earth for the purpose of redeeming sinful man. v 21, Matt. 28:18-20 d). I. THE GREAT TRANSFORMATION OF LIFE: VS 1-10

A. These are the needs for our own transformation of life. vs 1-3 1. We as being alien sinners were dead in our trespasses and sins. v 1, Isa. 59:1-2 2. We as being alien sinners were the children of disobedience. v 2, John 8:44 3. We as being alien sinners were the children of wrath. v 3, 2 Peter 2:14-15 B. These are the reasons for our own transformation of life. vs 4-7 1. We as being Christians are a new creature in Christ. vs 4-5, 2 Cor. 5:17 2. We as being Christians have been raised to sit with Christ in the heavenly places. v 6, Rev. 1:5-6 3. We as being Christians are receiving the true riches of Christ. v 7, Romans 8:17 C. These are the causes for our own transformation of life. v 8 1. Christians are saved by the grace of God. v 8, Titus 2:11-12 2. Saints are saved by a working faith in God. v 8, Gal. 5:6, James 2:14-26 D. These are the requirements for our own transformation of life. vs 9-10 1. Christians can not be saved by the works of man. v 9, Matt. 15:8-9, Gal. 1:6-9 2. Disciples can be saved by the works of God. v 10, 1 Cor. 3:8-9, Rev. 14:13 II. THE GREAT RECONCILIATION OF LIFE: VS 11-18 A. These are the needs for our own reconciliation of life. vs 11-12 1. When we as alien sinners were living in sin, we were hopeless without God. vs 11-12 2. We as being Christians would be hopeless without our God. Psa. 10:4, Mal. 3:14 B. These are the ways of our own reconciliation of life. v 13 1. Reconciliation takes place in Christ. v 13, 2 Cor. 5:17-21 2. Reconciliation is by the blood of Christ. v 13, 1 Cor. 15:1-4 C. These are the reasons for our own reconciliation of life. vs 14-15 1. Disciples can have spiritual unity in Christ. v 14, 1 Cor. 1:10, Gal. 3:2 2. Christians have become a new person in Christ. v 15, Col. 3:9-10 D. These are the achievements of our own reconciliation of life. v 16 1. Saints are reconciled in one body which is the church. v 16, Matt. 16:13-18, Eph. 4:4, Col. 1:18 2. All Christians are added to that one body which is the church. Acts 2:47, Phil. 4:3 E. These are the blessings for our own reconciliation of life. vs 17-18 1. Disciples have peace with God because they are reconciled unto Him. v 17, Matt. 11:28-30, Phil. 4:7 2. Christians have a mediator with God because the Holy Spirit makes intercessions for them. v 18, Romans 8:26-27 III. THE GREAT METAMORPHOSIS OF LIFE: VS 19-22 A. These are the values of our own metamorphosis of life. v 19 1. Those persons who have been redeemed are not strangers and foreigners in the Kingdom of God. v 19, Rev. 21:22-27 2. Those persons who have been redeemed have fellowship with the saints. v 19, Acts 2:42 B. These are the securities of our own metamorphosis of life. v 20 1. Christians are built upon the ground work of the apostles and prophets. v 20 a). Our redemption was confirmed by the apostles. Heb. 2:1-4 b). Our redemption was prophesied by the prophets. Luke 24:44 2. Saints are built upon the spiritual foundation of Christ. v 20, 1 Cor. 3:11 C. These are the purposes for our own metamorphosis of life. v 21 1. Disciples are to grow in spirituality so that they can overcome the sinful world. v 21, 1 Peter 2:5-9 2. Christians are to manifest redeemed righteousness upon the earth. v 21, 1 Cor. 6:19-20 D. These are blessings of our own metamorphosis of life. v 22 1. Christians are governed by the personality of the Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:19, 1 Cor. 3:16-17 2. Saints are ruled by the personality of the Son. Matt. 28:19, Gal. 2:20 3. Disciples are controlled by the personality of the Father, Matt. 28:19, John 14:23 CHAPTER 3

I. THE REVELATION OF PAUL: VS 1-6

A. These were the truthfulness of his own revelations of life. vs 1-2 1. Paul believed in his revelation because he was a prisoner of the Lord for preaching the gospel of Christ. v 1, Rev. 2:10 2. Paul knew the source of his own revelation because it came to him from the grace of God. v 2, Titus 2:11-12 B. This was the purpose of his own revelation of life. v 3 1. Paul wanted to make known the will of God. Romans 1:14-18 2. Christians should desire to make know the will of God unto sinful men. Mark 16:15-16, James 5:19-20 C. These are the mandates of his own revelation of life. vs 4-6 1. Christians should know and understand the knowledge of Christ. v 4, Col. 2:3 2. Disciples must understand the complete revelation of God. v 5, 2 Tim. 3:16-17 3. Saints should know the blessings of the gospel. v 6, 1 Cor. 15:1-4 a). All persons can become heirs of the Kingdom of God. Heb. 12:28-29 b). All persons can enjoy the promises of God. 2 Peter 1:4 II. THE MINISTRY OF PAUL: VS 7-13 A. These were the reasons for his ministry. vs 7-8 1. Paul was made a minister of the gospel. v 7, 2 Cor. 3:6 2. Paul preached the gospel of Christ. v 8, Mark 16:15-16 B. These were the motivations for his ministry. vs 9-11 1. Paul wanted all men to know the gospel plan of salvation. v 9, 2 Peter 3:9 2. Paul desired that all men would learn the purpose of the Lord's church. v 10, 2 Tim. 3:15 3. Paul wished that all men would understand the eternal purpose of God. v 11, 1 John 3:8 C. These were the ways by which Paul accomplished his ministry. v 12 1. Paul had a bold faith in God. v 12, Heb. 13:5-6 2. Paul had a trusting faith in God. v 12, 2 Tim. 1:12 E. This was the blessing of his ministry. v 13 1. Paul did not want the Ephesians to become discouraged over his tribulations. v 13 2. Christians should be encouraged over Paul's tribulations because he overcame the world of sin. 2 Tim. 4:6-8 III. THE PRAYER OF PAUL: VS 14-20 A. This was the reason for his prayer. v 14 1. Paul understood the blessings of the gospel. 1 Cor. 15:1-4 2. Christians should know the blessings of the gospel. Romans 1:16 B. This was the acknowledgement of his prayer. vs 14-15 1. Paul bowed his knees unto God. 2. Christians should be motivated by the power of prayer. Luke 18:1-8 C. These were the requests of his prayer. vs 16-19 1. Paul wanted our spiritual man to be strengthened by the powers of God. v 16, 2 Cor. 4:16-18 2. Paul desired that our faith would be anchored by love. v 17, Gal. 5:6 3. Paul wanted our comprehension to realize the value of that spiritual life. v 18, Matt. 16:26 4. Paul wished that our lives would be filled with spiritual fullness: the love of Christ and the love of God. v 19, Romans 5:6-8 D. This was the confidence of his prayer. vs 20-21 1. God is able to answer our prayers. v 20, 1 Peter 5:7 2. God will answer the prayers of those persons who are faithful. v 21, James 5:16 a). All Christians are added to the Church. Acts 2:47 b). I. THE SERVICES OF A CHRISTIAN: VS 1-3

A. This is the summon to that service. v 1 1. Paul, the prisoner of the Lord, gave us an humble appeal for that service. 2. Christians must give each other an humble admonition for that service. Gal. 6:1-2 B. These are the reasons for that service. v 1 1. Christians must walk worthy of their own vocation. Phil. 2:5-7 2. Disciples must be worthy of their own calling. 2 Peter 1:10-11 C. These are the mandates for that service. vs 2-3 1. A Christian must be humble in that service. v 2, Prov. 22:4, 1 Peter 5:6 2. A saint should be meek in that service. v 2, Matt. 5:5 3. A disciple needs to be longsuffering in that service. v 2, James 5:10-11 4. A brother must manifest love in that service. v 2, John 13:35 5. All members of the church should maintain Christian unity in that service. v 3, 1 Cor. 1:10-13 II. THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT: VS 4-6 A. There is only one body. v 4 1. The one body is the church. Eph. 1:22-23 2. Christ our Lord built the one New Testament church. Matt. 16:13-18 3. The saved are added to that one body: the church. Acts 2:47 B. There is only one Spirit. v 4 1. The Spirit is the Holy Spirit: the Lawgiver and Ruler. 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Tim. 3:16-17 2. The Holy Spirit upholds the laws of God in matters of our own creation of life. Gen. 1:1-3, Psa. 104:30, Job 33:4 3. The Holy Spirit upholds the law of Christ in matters of our own regeneration of life. John 16:7-14, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 5:3-9 C. There is only one hope. v 4 1. The hope of a Christian is a lively hope. 1 Peter 1:3 2. The hope of a Christian serves as an anchor for his soul. Heb. 6:18-19 D. There is only one Lord. v 5 1. Christ, the Lord is the head of our own redemption of life. Acts 2:36, Acts 4:12, 2 Cor. 5:17 2. Christ, the Lord is the head of the New Testament church. Col. 1:18 E. There is only one faith. v 5 1. The one faith signifies the whole gospel system. Jude 3-4 2. The one faith is sustained by the word of God. Romans 10:17, 2 Tim. 3:16- 17 F. There is only one baptism. v 5 1. This baptism is authority by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:18-20 2. This baptism is for the remission of our sins. Acts 2:38 3. This baptism is an immersion in water. Acts 8:36-39, Romans 6:3-6 G. There is only one God. v 6 1. God is the head of our own creation of life. Acts 17:24-29 2. God sustains our own redemption of life through Christ. 2 Cor. 5:18-21, Heb. 12:7-10 III. THE EDIFICATION OF THE CHURCH: VS 7-16 A. This is the source of our own edification of life. vs 7-10 1. Christians are edified by the redemption works of Christ. vs 7-10 2. Christ is able to edify us. Rev. 1:18 B. These are the ways by which we are edified in life. v 11 1. Christ made some of them to be apostles because their work is now completed. Rev. 1:9-11 2. Christ made some of them to be prophets because their work is now completed. Eph. 2:20 3. Christ makes some of us to be evangelists because we have not completed our work upon the earth. 2 Tim. 4:1-4 4. Christ makes some of us to be pastors: Elders or shepherds because we have not completed our work upon the earth. Acts 20:28 5. Christ makes some of us to be teachers because we have not completed our work upon the earth. Matt. 28:19-20, Heb. 5:12-14 C. These are the purposes for our own edification of life. vs 12-13 1. Christ wants his saints to be perfected. v 12, James 1:2-4 2. Christ desires that His church be edified. v 12, Acts 20:32 3. Christ commands that there be spiritual unity in the church. v 13, 1 Cor. 1:10-13 4. Our Lord craves that all Christians should come to the fullness of Christ. v 13, Col. 2:10 D. These are the spiritual blessings of our own edification of life. vs 14-16 1. Christians are growing in the spiritual knowledge so that they can be steadfast in the faith. v 14, Gal. 1:6-9 2. Disciples are growing in spirituality so that they can manifest love in the proper way. vs 15-16, Gal. 5:6 IV. THE LIFE OF THE GENTILES WITHOUT GOD: VS 17-21 A. This is the forbiddance of that life without God. v 17 1. A Christian should not live as the Gentiles lived without God. 2. A disciple must be a faithful servant of Christ. Gal. 2:20 B. These were the characteristics of that life without God. vs 17-19 1. The Gentiles walked according to the vanity of their minds. vs 17-18, Eccles. 1:2, Acts 17:16-21 2. The Gentiles were lonely in their life without God. v 18, Isa. 59:1-2 3. The Gentiles walked with a seared conscience in life. v 19, Romans 1:32, 1 Tim. 4:1-2 4. The Gentiles walked in the darkness of sin. v 19, Gal. 5:19-21 C. These are the ways to overcome that life without God. vs 20-21 1. Christians can overcome that life by learning of Christ. v 20, John 5:39, Phil. 2:5-11 2. Disciples can overcome that life by obeying the truth of Christ. v 21, John 14:6, John 8:31-32, Heb. 5:8-9 V. THE NEW LIFE: VS 22-32 A. This is the beginning of that new life. vs 22-24 (The new life begins with a spiritual birth.) John 3:1-7 1. The old man of sin must be destroyed. v 22, Romans 6:3-6 2. The new man of righteousness must be engendered. vs 23-24, Col. 3:10 B. These are the traits of that new life. vs 25-30 1. The new convert does not lie because he is speaking the truth. v 25, Acts 5:1-11 2. The new man does not harbor anger because he is overcoming his wrath. v 26, Prov. 16:32 3. The new person does not yield to Satan because he is resisting the Devil. v 27, James 4:7 4. The new convert does not steal because he is working for a living. v 28, 1 Thess. 4:11 5. The new man does not tear down the church because he is building it up. v 29, Gal. 5:15, Gal. 6:1-2 6. The new person does not rebel against the laws of the Holy Spirit because he is obeying the laws of the Holy Spirit. v 30, Acts 2:38, Romans 8:14-16 C. These are the achievements of that new life. vs 31-32 1. We as a Christian can achieve that new life by overcoming the works of unrighteousness. v 31, Romans 6:12-13 a). A Christian must conqueror bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil speakings, and malice in being a child of God. Heb. 12:15 b). A disciple can overcome those evil works by relying upon the powers of Christ. Romans 8:37, 1 Cor. 15:57 2. We as a Christian can achieve that new life by manifesting the works of righteousness in his life. v 32, Matt. 6:33 a). A saint must reveal kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness in his life for the Lord. Romans 8:9 b). A disciple can manifest those righteous works by the powers of Christ. Phil. 4:13 CHAPTER 5

I. THE PURITY OF LIFE: VS 1-7

A. These are the achievements of that purity of life. vs 1-2 1. Christians can follow God because we have His examples given unto us by the examples of Christ. v 1, 1 Peter 2:21 2. Christians can manifest the love of Christ. v 2, 1 Peter 4:8 B. These are the requirements for that purity of life. vs 3-4 1. A Christian must not be guilty of fornication. v 3, 1 Thess. 4:3 2. A saint should not become unclean. v 3, Romans 1:24-25 3. A disciple ought not to become guilty of covetousness. v 3, Col. 3:5 4. A Christian can not become filthy. v 4, James 1:27 5. A disciple can not engage in foolish talk. v 4, Titus 1:10 6. A saint should not become guilty of foolish jesting. v 4, Prov. 26:19 C. These are the reasons for that purity of life. v 5 1. The wicked persons will not inherit the Kingdom of God and Christ. v 5, Romans 14:17, John 18:36 2. The wicked persons will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. v 5, Rev. 21:27, Rev. 22:14-15 D. These are the ways by which we can attain that purity of life. vs 6-7 1. A Christian can obtain that purity of life by obeying the truth. v 6, John 8:31-32 2. A disciple can attain that purity of life by not having fellowship with evil persons. v 7, Psa. 1:1-3 II. WALKING IN THE LIGHT: VS 8-14 A. This is the need for that spiritual light. v 8 1. We as alien sinners were walking in spiritual darkness. v 8, John 3:19 2. We as Christians are now the children of light. v 8, 1 Thess. 5:5-6 B. These are the reasons for that spiritual light. v 9 1. Spiritual light engenders goodness. v 9 , Gal. 6:10 2. Spiritual light promotes the righteousness of God. v 9, Phil. 1:11 3. Spiritual light upholds truth of God. v 9, Prov. 12:19 C. These are the mandates for that spiritual light. vs 10-12 1. A Christian must radiate the armor of light. v 10, Matt. 5:14-16 2. A saint can not be enslaved by the works of darkness. vs 11-12, Romans 6:21 D. These are the purposes for that spiritual light. v 13 1. The word of God exposes evil deeds. v 13, John 3:19-21 2. Christians should walk in the light of God's word. v 13, Psa. 119:105 E. These are the motivations for walking in that spiritual light. v 14 1. A weak Christian would be awaken from his spiritual sleep, complacency and apathy. v 14, Amos 6:1 2. An erring child of God would be arising from that spiritual death which separates him from God. v 14, Isa. 59:1-2, Romans 6:23 III. WALKING BY SPIRITUAL WISDOM: VS 15-21 A. These are the summons for that spiritual wisdom. v 15 1. Christians should walk circumspectly. v 15, Col. 2:6 2. Disciples must not walk foolishly. v 15, James 1:22-25 B. These are the reasons for that spiritual wisdom. v 16 1. A Christian needs to know the times in which he is living. v 16, Romans 13:11-12 2. A saint should know that he is accountable unto God. v 16, Heb. 2:1- 3 C. These are the mandates for that spiritual wisdom. v 17 1. Christians can not be unwise concerning the laws of God. v 17, Acts 17:30-31 2. Disciples must know the laws of God. v 17, Heb. 8:11, Prov. 9:10 D. These are the blessings of that spiritual wisdom. vs 18-21 1. Spiritual wisdom brings the fulfillment of life because we as Christians are filled with the Spirit: not wine. v 18, Col. 1:10 2. Spiritual wisdom is enhanced by spiritual worship to God in songs because those acts enrich the soul. v 19, James 5:13 3. Spiritual wisdom is motivated with thanksgiving unto God because we as saints can count our blessings. v 20, Phil. 4:6, James 1:17 4. Spiritual wisdom engenders humility because God resists the proud. v 21, 1 Peter 5:5-6 IV. THE DIVINE RELATIONSHIP WHICH EXISTS BETWEEN CHRIST AND THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH: VS 22-33 A. This is the nature for that Divine Relationship. v 22 1. Christ is to the church, what a man is to his wife. v 22, Gen. 2:23-24 2. The church is to Christ, what a wife is to her husband. v 22, 1 Peter 3:1-6 B. This is the authority for that Divine Relationship. v 23 1. Christ is the Head (the Ruler) of the church. v 23, Col. 1:18 2. Christ is the Saviour of the church. v 23, 1 Cor. 15:24-28 C. These are the mandates for that Divine Relationship. v 24 1. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation must be governed by the word of God. John 12:48, Heb. 4:12, James 2:10-13, 2 Peter 1:3, 2 Tim. 3:16-17 2. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation is under the oversight of its elders. Titus 1:5, Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-4 3. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation must be ruled by the proper acts of spiritual worship. John 4:24 a). Singing with vocal music only is an act of worshiping God. Col. 3:16, Eph. 5:19 b). Prayer is an act of worshiping God. Acts 2:42, 1 Thess. 5:17 c). Faithful gospel preaching is an act of worshiping God. Acts 2:42, 2 Tim. 4:1-4 d). Partaking of the Lord's supper each Lord's day (Sunday) is an act of worshiping God. Acts 2:42, Acts 20:7 e). The giving of our money is an act of worshiping God. 1 Cor. 16:1-2, 2 Cor. 9:7 4. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation must uphold the laws of God for New Testament conversion. John 3:1-7 a). The alien sinner must believe in God so that he can be converted. Heb. 11:6, Mark 16:15-16 b). The alien sinner must repent of his past sins so that he can be converted. 2 Peter 3:9, Luke 13:3 c). The alien sinner must confess the Deity of Christ so that he can be converted. Matt. 10:32-33 d). The alien sinner must be baptized into Christ for the remission of his sins so that he can complete his conversion. Acts 2:38, Gal. 3:26-27, Romans 6:3-5 5. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation must do mission work. Matt. 28:18-20, James 5:19-20 6. The church is subjected unto Christ because the local congregation must do benevolent work. Gal. 6:10, James 1:27, James 2:15-16 (Congregations can work together in doing this work as long as it does not destroy the autonomy of the local congregation.) Romans 15:25-27, 2 Cor. 8:1-6 D. This is the bond of that Divine Relationship. v 25 1. Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. v 25, Acts 20:28 2. A Christian should love the church and give himself to its services. Matt. 6:33, Matt. 4:10 E. These are the purifications of that Divine Relationship. vs 26-27 1. The church is sanctified. v 26, John 18:36 2. The church is holy. v 27, Col. 1:13-14 F. This is the union of that Divine Relationship. vs 28-30 A. Christians are spiritually married to Christ. vs 28-31, Gal. 3:27-28 B. Disciples are united to Christ by marriage because the church is the Bride of Christ. vs 31-33, Rev. 19:7-9 CHAPTER 6

I. THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE HOME. VS 1-4

A. These are the relationships which should exist between children and their parents. vs 1-3 1. Children must obey their parents in the Lord. v 1, Col. 3:20 2. Children should honor their parents. v 2, Deut. 5:16, Psa. 27:10 3. Children would receive favors from God. v 3, Prov. 8:17 B. These are the relationships which should exist between parents and their children. v 4 1. Parents must love their children. v 4, Col. 3:21 2. Parents need to teach their children the truth. v 4, Isa. 54:13, John 6:45 3. Parents should not neglect this responsibility. v 4, Heb. 2:1-4 II. THE SLAVE AND THE MASTER RELATIONSHIP: VS 5-9 A. These were the relationships which existed between the slave and his master. vs 5-8 1. The slave was to obey his master. v 5 2. The slave must respect his master. v 5 3. The slave should give his master a good day's work. vs 6-7 B. This was the reason for that service. v 8 (The Lord would be pleased with that service.) C. These were the relationships which existed between the master and his slave. v 9 1. The master was to respect his slave. 2. The master must give his slave a livable salary for his work. D. This was the reason for that service. (The Lord is the Master of the slave owner.) III. THE CHRISTIAN SOLDIER: VS 10-18 A. These are the challenges for the Christian soldier. v 10 1. The Christian soldier must have a strong faith in the Lord. v 10, Mark 9:23 2. The Christian soldier should have confidence in the power of God. v 10, Heb. 4:14-16, Phil. 4:13 B. These are the summons for the Christians soldier. vs 11-13 1. The Christian soldier must put on the whole armor of God because the powers of Satan are great. vs 11-12, Luke 4:5-7 2. The Christian soldier should take unto himself the whole armor of God because the days are evil. v 13, 1 John 2:15-17 C. These are the attire for the Christian soldier. vs 14-17 1. The Christian soldier must gird his loins with the truth because there is great power in the truth. v 14, Jer. 20:9, Jer. 23:29 2. The Christian soldier should put on the breastplate of righteousness because this gives him the proper protection for his battles in life. v 14, Matt. 5:20, Psa. 119:172 3. The Christian soldier ought to shod his feet with the gospel of peace because he must stand against the devil. v 15, James 4:7 4. The Christian soldier must take the shield of faith so that he can overcome the fiery temptations of life. v 16, Mark 9:23, Romans 8:37 5. The Christian soldier needs to put the helmet of salvation upon his head because this gives him the proper hope for eternal life. v 17, 1 Thess. 5:8, Heb. 6:19 6. The Christians Soldier should take the sword of the spirit which is the word of God because this is his offensive and defensive weapon. v 17, Heb. 4:12, Jer. 5:14 D. These are the strengths of the Christian soldier. v 18 1. The Christian warrior can ask God for help. v 18, Eph. 3:21-22, 1 Peter 5:7 2. The Christian warrior can pray for other people. Paul declared the truth unto all men. v 20, Gal. 4:16, Acts 20:26-27 C. Paul did not try to hid his works. vs 21-22, 1 Tim. 5:24-25 D. Paul desired the best blessings for other people. vs 23-24 1.
