A Brief Study of Job

Introduction:

KJV Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed [avoided] evil.

KJV James 5:10-11Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Job had 10 Children Job 1:2

Job had 7,000 sheep – 3,000 camels – 500 Oxen – 500 she donkey’s – and a very great household making him the greatest of all the men of the east. Job 1:3

I.    What Happened To Job?

Satan stripped Job of his children, his belongings, his house, his workers, and all his wealth Job 1:1-19.

Then because that did not affect Job, Satan attacked his health Job 2:1-9.

The Physical things that occurred to his body – BOILS Job 2:7, ITCHING Job 2:8, UNRECOGNIZABLE Job 2:12, DEPRESSION Job 3:25, BROKEN SKIN WITH WORMS AND DIRT Job 7:5, DARKENED EYES Job 16:16, STRANGE SMELLING BREATH Job 19:17, A MASSIVE LOSS OF WEIGHT Job 19:20, ACHING BONES Job 30:17, and BLACKENED SKIN WITH FEVER Job 30:30.

II.    How Did Job React?

To the loss of his children, his belongings, his house, his workers, and all his wealth he…Job 1:20-22!

To the loss of his health he…Job 2:10.

Job said he would maintain his ways before God Job 13:15.

Job had faith in his redeemer and wanted to see God Job 19:25-29.

III.    Why Did Satan Allow His Wife To live: Job 2:9?

Could it be that woman was easily used against man to bring him down?

How About:

Genesis 3:6 – Eve

Judges 16:16-19 – Delilah

I Kings 21:5-16 – Jezebel

II Samuel 11:2-17 – Bathsheba

Maybe the cure for the problem is allowing man and woman to take their rightful places I Corinthians 11:3.

IV.   How Can Christians Learn from Job?

Job Abstained from Evil – We too are commanded to do so (even the appearance of it) – I Thessalonians 5:22

Job took the persecutions and so should we – Matthew 5:10-12.

We must prepare to face Satan’s best – Ephesians 6:10-18.

V.   A Great Price Has A Great Reward
Job was blessed twice as much as before – Job 42:10-17.

Great also, is our reward if we remain faithful as did Job.

Our Reward is described as…Revelation 21:1-7; 21:15-18; 21:25-27, and Matthew 25:46

Conclusion:

Have you put on Christ in baptism Galatians 3:27, after hearing the word of God Romans 10:14-17, that produced your faith, and brought you to a point of repentance Acts 2:38, to Confess the Lord Matthew 10:32-33? Come!
