PLEASING TO GOD, OR PLEASING TO ME? Brian Yeager
When most people look for a Church to attend, they
go and observe the services, the atmosphere, the activities offered and
etc. They are looking for something that makes them feel alive, and
entertains them. The question at hand is one that is rarely weighed
in some hearts and minds. There is a passage that must be looked
at in this line of thought. (Galatians 1:10) “For do I now persuade
men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should
not be the servant of Christ.” We at the East Side Church of Christ
make worship according to the Bible ONLY. You will find no Grand
Piano, Band, or outrageous glamour in the worship services. What
you will find is a worship that is pleasing to God as it is taken from
his word with no addition nor subtraction which would be wrong (Revelation
22:18-19). God asks for first day of the week worship (Acts 20:7
and I Corinthians 16:1-2). This is the time in which we partake of
the Lord’s Supper and give to him, and the only day of the week in which
we do so. Why, because that is what is authorized of God. Come
and worship and do things in Bible ways and call things by Bible names.
The Church of Christ has no creed book, we have the Bible that is the word
of God (II Timothy 3:16-17). We have no musical instruments in the
worship to God, because the heart is the only authorized instrument in
New Testament Christian worship on this earth (Eph. 5:19 and Col. 3:15).
We are the New Testament Church as it is the only Church authorized in
the New Testament (Eph. 4:4, Eph 1:22-23, I Cor. 12:12-13, and Matt. 16:18).
What must I do to be saved? HEAR THE TRUTH (Romans 10:17 and John
17:17), BELIEVE THE TRUTH (Mark 16:15-16 and John 8:32), REPENT OF YOUR
SINS (Acts 2:38, Luke 13:3), CONFESS CHRIST (Matthew 10:32-33), and BE
BAPTIZED into Christ (the Church) for the remission of sins by immersion
(I Corinthians 12:12-13, Romans 6:1-6, Acts 22:16, and Acts 8:26-39).
Then you must REMAIN FAITHFUL to the Lord (Rev. 2:10).
